‘Tis the season that Orange County Sheriff’s Department personnel will be out looking for drunk drivers (including those driving under the influence of drugs) as part of a special year-end Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization. Orange County Sheriffs on Full Alert to Catch Drunk Drivers this time of year.
This year the Orange County DUI enforcement will focus more than ever on drug impairment, which likely will out number alcohol DUIs this year.
“Beginning December 16 and continuing into 2017, you will see stepped up enforcement for anyone driving impaired,” said Sergeant R. Wert of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. “We want to keep our roads safe for holiday travelers, so we will have zero tolerance for drugged driving.”
As part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign, police departments within the County of Orange, the OCSD and the California Highway Patrol will set up all of the following:
- Orange County Driving under the Influence (DUI) checkpoints;
- Orange County DUI saturation patrols;
- On Friday, December 16th, 2016, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a DUI checkpoint event;
- On Friday, December 30th, 2016, the OC Sheriff’s Department are conducting county wide DUI saturation patrols
- All law enforcement will be conducting various DUI enforcement events during the holiday season into January, 2017.
Orange County Sheriffs on Full Alert to Catch Drunk Drivers and drugged drivers – Prescription medication, marijuana and illicit drugs can impair judgment and result in a DUI arrest for drug DUI the same as alcohol.
California drunk drivers also have an app for that – everyone is encouraged to download the DDVIP mobile app for Android or iPhone. The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver. The feature-packed app even has social media tie-ins and even a tab for the non-designated driver to call Uber, Lyft or Curb.

All of these activities are done to make sure that grant money for DUI enforcement is fully spent and used during the fiscal year.
